Educational Objectives

Main educational objective of the department of Physics Education is to educate the secondary school physics (science) teachers required in modern society.

In order to educate students to have the ability as competent physics (science) teachers for the secondary school, our department provides students with various curriculums related to physics theories, physics experiments, physics education theories, study on teaching materials and teaching methods in physics, and so on. Additionally, there is a seminar course in which students voluntarily participate to practice teaching methods based on the subjects related closely to physics (science) in the secondary school. Department of Physics Education has the classroom, microcomputer based laboratories, and various equipments for making multimedia teaching materials, and so on, for carrying out the above educational objectives.

Educational Contents

In order to have the abilities as competent physics (science) teachers for the secondary school, students in the department of Physics Education take various courses in physics theories, physics experiments, physics education theories, physics education performance and evaluation, teaching methods in physics, and so on. The courses for physics theories, which are organized systematically from first to fourth grade, consist of mechanics, electromagnetism and extend to the advance courses for modern physics, starting from general physics. Starting from basic physics experiments, there are various courses for physics experiments. Such courses are to reconstruct experiments in the secondary school text books, to make teaching materials, experiments consisting of various major fields, mechanics, electromagnetism, optics, and so on. The courses for physics education theories consist of physics education curriculum, physics education evaluation, history of science and philosophy of science and science learning theories. The course for physics education performance, evaluation and teaching methods consist of study on teaching materials and teaching methods in physics, logics and logical writing in science, management of laboratory, physics education instruction activities, and so on. Additionally, there is a famous Wednesday seminar in which students voluntarily participate to practice teaching methods based on the subjects related closely to physics (science) in the secondary school in every Wednesday of every semester. Besides, there are many activities like the physics experience event to celebrate Science Day and various educational service activities.
